Welcome to Iceland strange foreigners!!

I´m at work and I have absolutly no idea what I am doing... so I decided to write a little blog so that it looks like I am working :)

Only three days until Wiss, Annie and Meghan explore the beautiful Iceland that I have been telling them about... hope the weather wont be shit and people at the airport wont be pissed because of the weather... If there is, Erla you will have to do some serious damage control and sweet talk them into loving our country.. si??

another thing, my cousin just had a baby yesterday morning, on our grandma´s 75th birthday so expect nothing but happiness and smiles from my relatives!!

We have a football game the same day as they arrive so strange foreigners, you cant really enjoy the luxury of Icelandic beer until saturday (unlike Kiwi who dove right into our beer culture and ended up, well pissed as always!!)... hope you will manage!

well that´s it for now, my boss is looking at me like he´s about to kill me, so I should get on with my work (that I have no idea how to do...)

stop looking at me...... SWAN!!

Eurovision

Happy Eurovision day!!

Today us weird ass europeans have our annual Eurovision song contest, or better yet the pre-contest for the big contest next Saturday night. You must be asking yourself what the hell I am talking about, I must be on crack, but nooo. The Eurovision sog contest is like the name indicates, a song contest between european contires. Each contry sends one artist, normally a popular artist in their home country, and they write a song specilly for the contest. This contest is broadcasted in all the contires that are participating and after the artists perform their song, the contires give each other points after a national phone vote (can´t vote for your own country) and so on. At the end of the night you have the winner, the Eurovision song!!

-you should really check out the Eurovision web site:

http://www.eurovision.tv/english/index.htm

In Iceland it always is a pretty big deal and people have Eurovision parties all over (again, another excuse to party...) Every year we go into the contest and think we will win this time, but we alwyas manage to stay in the last places. Our best results are 2nd place in 1999, and this year we have the same artist as back then so we shouldn´t be in the last 5 like always...

anyways, I hope I have shown you a thing or two about the Eurovision song contest, can´t wait until Saturday for the real event... and Magnus I know you are excited too!!

hehe see yous

sæl og blessuð (hi how´s it going...)

the weekend was as sweet as the Icelandic candy and I managed to shake my ass, drink some sangria and call my ususal phone-victims after hours...

i want to say congrats to all my friends that managed to graduate this weekend and i wish i could have been there with you guys... but mexico was calling so i decided to take my finals in iceland and go to there in june, but anyways "til hamingju með árangurinn" (congratulations) with your diploma, i am veru proud of you... next year it will be me who will be up there in my tradicional icelandic outfit, should be a good laugh:)

-i heard about the "riot" around booze-cruze and my god, what the hell is wrong with the system if a bunch og seniors can´t have a small get together in the middle of kirk court-yard, drink some beer and then just go home (or to other people´s houses haha) what´s the worst thing that could happen? why not spend some of the money that it costs to supervise these type of activities in something more important, like lets say, the drug war?? i mean, this seems so simple and useless to me... bt then again i am just a stupid foreigner who is use to all the freedom in the world and can drink my beer wherever i want to...

-speaking of which, this weekend is a soccer-party with my team Fjölnir, and the theme will be a "senorita theme". if you have any ideas, please let me know, coz all i have so far is a flower in my hair and a latin-lover in my arms...

after said that i think i will leave work and go and practise my salsa-moves

a quick test at the end to see if you actually leared something in Icelandic, how do you greet people in icelandic?

-glæsilegt!!

Iceland oh Iceland

Did you guys see the Oprah show Around the world?
Holy canloly, there was a special report about Iceland and Icelandic women that you should really check out.

-First of all Iceland is known for it´s great nightlife... When it is dark 24 hours, what else is there yo do but hit the bars... And when it´s light 24 hours and you can´t sleep, what do you do? You hit the bars!! Icelandic nighlife starts around midnight and doesn´t end until six or seven in the morning...
-Second of all the woman in Oprah´s show described Icelandic women as very beuatiful and "liberal". We are supposed to be very independent and "sex" isn´t a taboo in this country. The dating culture is very different from the one in the States, I would say there almost isn´t any. Not many guys get a girls number and ask her on a date. -The Icelandic way is to text her, maybe meet her sometimes downtown and then later, when he feels like he knows her, then they go see a movie...

Hehehe it was funny to see Oprah´s reaction to our culture. For example the phonebook we have, even our prime minister is listed there. We all fit into one book, one book for the entire country! Then there is the issue of racism, but in Iceland it is illegal to say racist things, especially in public and you could get a time in jail. The crime rate is very low and it is considered one of the safest places on Earth. We heat our houses with gothermal power and we use the rest of the hot water we get from the earth to heat up outdoor swimming pools around the country. We love our national holidays and for example this month we have two, and the next month two as well. Not to mention our 13 days of Christmas and Second day of Easter...

If this little piece of pulitzer-price article hasn´t moved your longing to come to Iceland and visit me, then you should really reconsider your expectations:) hehe

well, along with my 270.000 country-men I say goodbye and hope to see your ass soon!! I know I will see Meghan, Annie, Wiss and my dearest sister Erla in about.. hmmm two weeks!!!

Bæó, í bili þó!!

Who stole my nipples?

haha anyone remember the brittish comedy show Smack the Pony? haha

anyways, after a 6-0 lost last night I almost considered quitting soccer and this whole athletic crap. Why be sober friday and saturday for a big game sunday and then lose 6-0!! I should have gotten drunk and play hungover lika a normal person... Man, I haven´t lost this big since.. well I don´t kow when and frankly I am very upset about it.

How did I handle it? Well, first I
-accepted some "sympathy food" from my parents
-then I drank a coulpe of feel-good-beers
-ended up with a few friends in the movie theater to see the Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy (I take no responsability for misspelling stuff btw)

I am not a quitter and I am just going to punish myself for playing like crap with some more exercise and no coke for a month (oh boy...)
-i bet some of you are wondering why i didnt say "no beer" well, when we lose 7-0 or more then I will take the beer of my agenda, k?

anyways, on my way to work

hang in there

-juicy-

Lucky me!

Something funny noramlly happens to people like myself. Yesterday I almost killed myself while cleaning the offices when I got the floor a little bit too wet and I slipped on it. Last night I went to the movie theaters with my twin and we were the only two poeple in there!! I thought I was in some kind of a movie where no one is awake and you can do whatever you want beause no one sees you...

Today I woke up two hours before usual and thought it was time for work (but as you know we have light almost 24 hours these days) and so I almost showed up at work at 6, when it really start at 8, silly me:)

I also manage to answer the weirdest phone calls at work. Today there was a woman calling claiming to work with our company and saying she spent a lot of money on sationary and she wanted the money for it. After half an hour of persuation from my part I convinced her she was calling the wrong company and finally got her off the phone.

Now it is 15, or 3 o´clock and I am waiting for something supernatural to happen, a volcano eruption in the mointain next to my street or something,

Well I´m off to tempt destiny!
au revoir mes amis

Lets make lika a banana and split

Hello mates!

Yes, as you can see I am very influenced by my stay in England this weekend. We left last thursday to London, which is about an hour away from Ipswich Town, where my brother will be playing. A well marked IPSWICH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB bus picked us up and made us feel very special:) The driver was really funny and spoke a whole lot to me and Magga on the way there (mainly because we were sitting in the front with him), but he spoke so much that while dropping us of at the hotel he managed to drive the bus under the roof and damage it a little bit, it was hilarious!!

The next morning we woke up to his horrible sound, like the fire alarm or something, after a few pints from the night before me and Magga weren´t really thinking straight and thought that maybe just our room was too warm because the windows were not open. So I took my pillow and tried to keep the noise down while Magga open the windos and tried to let some air in. After a few minuites of doing that it stopped. Later we found out that it really was the fire alarm, but thank god there was no fire...

Then we met up with Erla, who came all the way from Minnesota to be with us, thank you very please for that Erla!! and of course as you can imagine we lost it and partied the whole weekend... We did see Ipswich beat Crewe 5-1 in an awesome game and experience the english football culture, which is the best in the world. Why don´t I live in England?

Anyways,it was a great weekend with the family and I am defenately going back one day when Óskar starts playing there.

I have to say thanx to my sisters for a very good dance competition, even though my twin was a little rusty. And thanx to Luke Hobbs for his effort, dont worry alcohol does effect your movements :)

I had my first final this morning and did pretty good compared to half an hour preparation... Tomorrow I have another one and that is not going to be easy, but as I always say, Cs get dregrees!!

Lets make a tree and leaf!

-are you finished?
-no I´m icelandic!!
